What This Is

There is no young driver fleet, no young driver counter and no separate booking route. There is one rental business, one age policy, and a surcharge that is written down in public because the question is worth answering before you waste an afternoon on it.
The minimum age here is 21, which is the same as almost everywhere else in San Antonio. From 21 to 24 there is a young renter fee of $20 a day on top of the rate — also the same as almost everywhere else, except that this is the page where you can read it.
That is the whole of the difference. Your age goes on the booking, the fee is in the quote you agree to, and nothing is charged until all of it is settled with you. From 25 the fee simply is not there.

Junior enlisted and first-term
Old enough to be posted anywhere and, at most counters in this city, charged a premium nobody will quote before you arrive.
Students and trainees
Tech school, university and a course that finishes on a Friday you have to be somewhere else by.
First-time renters
Nobody is born knowing how a deposit hold works, and asking should not cost you the booking.
Temporary duty and training
Orders that put a young driver in an unfamiliar city with somewhere to be at zero six hundred.
Arriving on a PCS
A household on the move and a driver in it young enough for the surcharge to matter to the total.

What Changes, and What Does Not
Most of renting a car is the same at any age. This is the short list of what is not, set out before you book rather than discovered at the hand-over.
Every driver
If you are under 25
- Your age
- The minimum is 21, on every channel.
- Under 21 we cannot rent to you at all, and we would rather you read that here than find it out at a counter. From 21 up, you book on the same terms as anybody else.
- The young renter fee
- Nothing extra from 25.
- $20 a day from 21 to 24, on top of the rate. It is a published figure, it is in the quote before you commit, and it is not discovered at the hand-over.
- Your licence
- Current, in date, and on you at the hand-over rather than in a bag in the boot.
- The same licence, and we check it the same way. Tell us if yours was issued outside the United States so we can confirm what else to bring.
- The card
- Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, and it has to be in your own name.
- That one catches people out here more than anywhere else — a parent can arrange the booking, but the card and the licence have to match the driver.
- The deposit
- $250 to $400, set by the vehicle you pick, refundable once the vehicle is back in good order.
- It moves with the class rather than with your age, so a smaller vehicle ties up less of your balance — worth knowing when the deposit is the part that actually decides it.
- Insurance
- You need verifiable comprehensive and collision coverage that transfers to a rental vehicle.
- If your own policy is liability-only, or you have none, that is the usual position at this age and it is not a refusal — CDW and SLI cover is offered when you make the reservation.
- The vehicle
- You book a specific vehicle rather than a class.
- Which vehicles are open to you is confirmed before you commit to one — say your age when you book and we will settle it then.

Do I need my own insurance?
Worth two minutes with your insurer before you book, because many personal auto policies extend some cover to a rental and some cards include it as a benefit when you pay with that card. What your particular booking needs is confirmed with you before it is final, so ask us at that point rather than at the hand-over.
Which vehicles can I rent?
You book a specific vehicle rather than a class, and which vehicles are open to you is settled with us before you commit to one. Tell us what has to fit — how many people, how much luggage, how far you are going — and we will narrow it down with you. The vehicles we rent are listed on the homepage.
Can you deliver it to me?
Yes, across the San Antonio area — a home, a dormitory, a hotel or a workplace. That is often the point for a younger driver, since the reason you need a vehicle may be that you have no way of getting to us to collect one. A delivery fee applies, worked out from the distance and the pickup time and quoted while you book rather than added afterwards.
